Nepal Visa Procedure & Fees

Visa on Arrival

Tourists can conveniently obtain a visa upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), Kathmandu, and at selected land border crossings.

Steps to Apply:

  • Online Application: Fill out the Tourist Visa on Arrival form online within 15 days before your travel via the official Department of Immigration website. You may also complete the form at airport kiosks.

  • Required Documents:

    • A valid passport (minimum 6 months validity with at least 1 blank page).

    • A recent passport-size photo.

    • Visa fee payment in cash (USD preferred; other major currencies may be accepted).

  • At the Airport:

    1. Fill the online form (if not done earlier).

    2. Pay the visa fee at the counter and collect the receipt.

    3. Submit the form, receipt, and documents at the immigration desk.

    4. Visa is processed and affixed to your passport.


Visa from Nepalese Embassy/Consulate

You may also apply in advance from a Nepalese embassy or consulate in your home country.

Procedure:

  • Complete the online visa form from the embassy/consulate website.

  • Provide the following:

    • Printed confirmation of your online application.

    • Original passport (valid for 6 months with 2 blank pages).

    • Passport-size photo(s) as required.

    • Visa fee payment (via bank transfer or money order, depending on the embassy).

    • Additional documents as requested (e.g., return envelope for postal applications).


Visa Fees (Tourist Visa)

  • 15 days: USD 30

  • 30 days: USD 50

  • 90 days: USD 125


Visa Extension

  • Can be extended at the Department of Immigration in Kathmandu or Pokhara.

  • Fee: USD 3 per day.

  • Minimum extension: 15 days (USD 45).

  • Maximum stay: 150 days in one calendar year (January–December).


Gratis (Free) Visa Categories

  • Children under 10 years (except U.S. citizens).

  • SAARC citizens (except Afghanistan) – first visit up to 30 days in a visa year.

  • Chinese nationals – up to 150 days in a visa year.

  • Non-Residential Nepalese (NRN) cardholders.


Important Notes

  • Passport Validity: Must be valid for at least 6 months on entry.

  • Payment: Carry cash (USD recommended) for smooth processing.

  • Overstay Penalty: Overstaying your visa is a serious offense with heavy fines and penalties.
