The Kathmandu Valley Ridge Trek is a short but rewarding 4-day hike that takes you along the scenic ridges surrounding Kathmandu. This trek, covering the route from Kathmandu → Chisapani → Nagarkot → Dhulikhel → Kathmandu, offers a perfect introduction to trekking near the capital.

The journey begins with a short drive to Sundarijal, where the trek starts. From Sundarijal, you hike approximately 5 hours to Chisapani, passing through the lush forests of Shivapuri-Nagarjun National Park, the youngest national park in Nepal. You’ll spend your first night at Chisapani, surrounded by serene natural beauty.

On the second day, the trek continues to Nagarkot, taking around 6 hours. Along the way, you pass through charming villages, terraced farmlands, and dense forests, experiencing traditional Nepali rural life. Nagarkot is famous for its panoramic Himalayan views, and you’ll enjoy a breathtaking sunset here. The following morning, wake up early to witness a stunning sunrise over the mountains before trekking onward to Dhulikhel, another picturesque town rich in culture and scenic landscapes.

This short ridge hike is ideal for those looking to experience Nepal’s natural beauty and Himalayan views without venturing too far from Kathmandu.

This scenic trek follows the rim of the valley, starting from Sundarijal and continuing through Nagarkot, Dhulikhel, Namobuddha, and ending at Panauti. Along the route, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of majestic Himalayan peaks such as Ganesh Himal, Manaslu, Langtang Lirung, Dorje Lakpa, Shishapangma, and Gauri Shankar. On clear days, you might even catch a glimpse of Mount Everest from Nagarkot.

This trek is not technically difficult, making it suitable for all levels of hikers. Over the five days, you’ll not only stretch your legs but also experience life in traditional villages.
