Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek, in eastern Nepal near the Sikkim border, is a thrilling and less-trekked route to the world’s third-highest peak (8,586m). Opened in 1988, it offers pristine landscapes, diverse cultures, and panoramic views of Kanchenjunga, Everest, Lhotse, and Makalu. The trek passes through the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area (2,035 sq. km), home to wildlife like snow leopards, red pandas, Himalayan black bears, musk deer, and various birds. Along the trail, trekkers experience the unique lifestyles of Sherpa, Rai, and other ethnic groups while enjoying spectacular mountain scenery.

Overview
The Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek starts from Taplejung, reached via a flight to Bhadrapur and jeep ride to Taplejung. The trek visits both North and South Base Camps. It begins on the north side, offering views of Tent Peak, Nepal Peak, and Cross Peak before Kanchenjunga dominates the skyline. From Pangpema, the route returns to Ghunsa, crosses Mirgin La Pass, and continues south through Ramche and Oktang, providing spectacular views of Kanchenjunga’s South West face.
